Growth hacking Intern

VGL is looking for a digitally-savvy intern to help create traction with fresh ideas and high performance digital marketing initiatives that meet business objectives. The GROWTH HACKING INTERN will be part of the organization's communications team.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of existing acquisition activities

  • Identify underutilized channels that can drive upselling and the acquisition of new users and customers.

  • Work with revenue operations and demand generation teams to test, analyze, and report on acquisition, conversion and demand generation initiatives.

  • Create copy that effectively connects with and persuades our different target audiences

  • Research, test and implement SaaS solutions that support the marketing team’s goals

  • Conduct and present competitive analyses and market research

  • Research and propose new demand generation projects

  • Translate ideas into actions that deliver business results

  • Keep abreast of the latest trends in digital marketing UX

  • Identify industry trends and insights

Required:

Media analyst Intern

VGL is looking for a (paid) digitally-savvy intern to help with external social media communications and support our donor engagement strategy with data-driven analysis. The Media Analyst Intern will be part of the organization's communications team.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Setup and daily management of advertising campaigns across various social platforms
  • Real-time optimization of live media to ensure client goals are met and/or exceeded
  • Provide media planning assistance for upcoming campaigns, determine which platforms to run on, audiences to target, and creative strategies to implement.
  • Setup, run, and analyze A/B tests for newsletters and donation campaigns.
  • Augment campaign reporting process to ensure relevant client metrics are captured and explained
  • Focus on iterative campaign improvements, documenting experiment insights, and striving to “over-deliver” to clients

Required:

  • BA or BS degree (Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Finance a plus) or entrepreneurial experience
  • Advanced skills in Excel, including pivot tables and VBA
  • Ability to solve problems and think critically
  • Proven record of managing multiple projects at once
  • Ability to stay highly organized and efficient in a fast-paced, rigorous work environment

Digital Marketing Intern

VGL is looking for (paid) digitally-savvy intern to help with external social media communications and online advertising to drive sales for VGL’s programs and services. The Digital Marketing Intern will be part of the organization's communications team.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Increase traction with our target markets (student veterans, partners, and donors).
  • Participate in creating copy, editing, and publishing social media communications.
  • Collaborate on advertising and promotional material.
  • Assist with analyses, market research, product management, product development, sourcing and all other aspects related to marketing as directed.
  • Analyze current and emerging marketing trends, relevant trending conversations/topics, and share insights across the organization.
  • Support media analytics/reporting to highlight insights into marketing campaign performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, energetic, independent, and responsive to feedback.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable collecting, analyzing, and using data to influence decision-making.
  • Familiarity with Squarespace website development/management.
  • Familiarity with marketing communications strategy and processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include proofreading and editing.
  • Ability to create documentation of processes and procedures.
  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S.

Preferred:

  • Project management experience within a digital environment.
  • Experience working within an advertising agency or creative environment.

The VGL Partnerships intern will work with the Director of Partnerships on each partnership relationship to provide mutual benefits for each partner organization. Mutual benefits include but are not limited to funding, in-kind donations, publicity and/or support to new or existing VGL programs.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, develop, and close partnership opportunities that will augment the VGL brand and its fellows.

  • Help define/refine clear and compelling benefits for each partner organization.

  • Assist in the management of existing organizational partnerships.

  • Provide input to the overall business strategy during monthly call-ins and collaborate closely with internal partner verticals.

Eligibility and Requirements: 

  • Currently enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate institution.

  • Excellent research and writing skills.

  • Strong ability to ‘get things done’, have a sense of humor, be flexible, creative, and professional.

  • Ability to prove high-quality, on-time work in a fast-moving, start-up environment.

  • Ability to work effectively with other verticals across the organization toward a common goal.

  • Comfort working autonomously once given direction (given the end goal, not the how).

  • Required to commit to six months or more as a staff volunteer.

  • Required to attend one strategic planning session a year.

  • Required to call-in on monthly communications staff evening meetings.

  • Required time commitment of up to 5 hours per week.

  • Required to respond to internal e-mails within 24 hours, external e-mails within 48 hours. If you are going to be out of the loop for an extended period (vacation, travel etc.) just set expectations before you leave.

Data Analytics Intern

The Data Analytics Intern should have a demonstrated passion for data visualization, infographics and creative reporting. The candidate should have prior academic or professional experience with data management, analysis and visualization – ideally presenting data and graphic concepts in a clear and concise manner. 

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Background in a field related to databases or data management, or a strong desire to learn.

  • Solid communication and organizational skills.

  • Tech savvy and proficient in Microsoft Excel. 

  • Experience with visualization and/or dashboard design techniques for data analysis and presentation.

  • Experience with graphic software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

Eligibility and Requirements: 

  • Required to commit to six months or more as an intern.

  • Required time commitment of up to 10 hours per week.

  • 1-3 years of experience in data and analytics.

  • Be self-motivated, well organized and able to work efficiently and autonomously, as part of a small team.

  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and manage multiple projects.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, newsroom-like environment within a growing, diverse team with unpredictable hours.

  • Required to attend monthly staff evening meetings (Virtual).

  • Required to respond to e-mails daily, on a regular basis.

  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.
